For a long time, savvy businesses have relied on link building to strengthen their market authority and expand their reach. Link building also enhances brand visibility and can boost SEO performance.
Unfortunately, many marketers and business owners still don’t know what link building is. Among those that do, very few understand link-building best practices. Some even use illegal linking practices, putting them at risk of hefty penalties, while those applying white hat methods may be focusing on the wrong areas.
For this reason, BuzzStream recently set out on a journey to gather the facts to help small business owners make better link-building decisions.
Survey Findings
It turns out, many small businesses understand the importance of link building. However, very few have a link-building strategy in place. Of the 612 respondents, 62.7% understand the importance of link building. But only 22.5% were currently using one.
More interesting, a significant proportion of those who understand the importance of link building don’t know the fundamentals of a link-building strategy. 52% cannot even define link building, and 74.3% don’t know the difference between internal and external links. It’s a sorry state, to say the least.
