It’s worth noting that LinkedIn is the largest professional network with more than half a billion users across the globe. With each passing time, LinkedIn is becoming a sales and marketing tool in addition to a hiring platform.

Small businesses can target an exact industry, job role, and company size that they are sure will typically purchase their products. For example, a company selling customer support software to small businesses can set ad campaigns to only show to businesses having under 100 employees. This feature provides demographics that are similar to other social media platforms such as gender, age, and location. However, one key difference is the ability to customize based on company name, title, job functions, groups, and skills. This enables users to target particular industries without competing against spam of other irrelevant messages and companies.

Adding Digital Media to your LinkedIn Profile

LinkedIn ranks among the top social media networks, and with over 200 million professionals as on January 2013, it is the preferred “business to business” social network.  The site has recently added a number of new tools that enhance the experience, particularly for the average business user.

One of the key new tools launched in May was the ability to add Rich Media to one’s profile. A second even more recent update that is not fully rolled out yet is the ability to create post updates that integrate rich media.

 How to Add Digital Media to your LinkedIn Profile:

To add images, documents, presentations or video to your LinkedIn profile, do the following:

1. Click “Profile” from the menu at the top,

2. Then choose “Edit Profile.”

Under each of the entries in your Summary, Experience and Education sections is a new icon—a square with a (+) symbol.

3. Click this to upload a file or add a link to a piece of content you want to share.

NOTE: If you don’t see this icon yet, the update hasn’t reached you.

If you choose to add a link, type or paste the link to your content into the “Add a link” field. If you upload a file, select the file from your computer. A picture of your content will display with the pre-filled title and description fields which are editable.

To edit the title and description, move your cursor over Profile at the top of your homepage and select Edit Profile. Scroll to the media sample you’d like to edit and click the pencil icon in the lower-right corner. Click inside the Title and Description fields to edit the text, then click “Save”.

You can also move media samples from one section to another. Do this by clicking the drop-down menu under “Move this media to” and choose the section of your profile you’d like to move it to. Then click “Save”. To rearrange items within the same section of your profile, click and drag them to the spot you want.

If you want to remove an image, presentation, document or video from your profile, scroll to the sample and click the pencil icon in its lower-right corner. Click “Remove this Media,” then click “Yes, remove it.”
