As we head into the new year it’s always wise to look back and review what had an impact in the prior year. Much changed in the social media and particularly Facebook world in 2012 (remember page tabs at 520 px wide?) and yet many things remain the same as we move into 2013.

Key posts that were accessed the most from our TabSite blog in 2012 all centered around Facebook changes and Facebook marketing.  No wonder, as Facebook made some significant changes in March moving from the old wall feed to the new Timeline News Feed.

Here’s a look back at our top 5 posts for most visits and quick access to each of them.

1. Facebook Timeline for Pages Image Dimensions Infographic

With the launch of Timeline in February 2012 and change for everyone in March 2012, adjusting Facebook pages for Timeline was a priority.  TabSite was pleased to launch the new 810 width of tab apps with 24 hours of Facebooks public press release.

The Infographic covered key image sizes for tabs but also for the Cover image, profile photo (which later changes again), the tab app image, a shared facebook post, a Highlighted photo and more.

2.  Contest Suite of Tools Launched by TabSite

TabSite launched Photo Contests in April and also Video Contests and Essay / Caption Contests in May of 2012, making it easy for Page Admins to run a promotion on their Facebook page.  This was followed by further advancements including 2 Stage Contests in the summer (main and finalist rounds of voting) and more advanced tracking and export capabilities.

3. Facebook Fan Gating Strategies for the New Timeline Pages

A hot topic in 2012 was the fact that Facebook removed the “set tab as default landing page” for a Facebook Page with the launch of Timeline.  This forced companies to re-think the fan gating (like gating) strategy such as to have the Facebook link on one’s website go to a tab instead of the main page in order to implement a Like Gate strategy.  This post was in demand for those seeking to learn and work with new methods to help a page capture the fans when they first visit a Facebook Page.

4. Updated Facebook Timeline Infographic

Yes, the update to the Facebook Timeline Infographic was also in the top 5 most trafficked posts.  In late April 2012, Facebook changed the Page Profile Photo image size to 180×180 compressed to 160×160 (formerly 125×125).  Changes, changes.  Facebook is a king of advancement and never getting too comfortable!  This post also garnered the most pins on Pinterest of any image from our blog.

5.  Posting Your Contest or Promotion to Facebook – Best Practices

This post went live in December and picked up steam as many companies were in the midst of setting up and running holiday promotions on their Facebook Pages.   With a simple outline and tips for how to post and using the mobile Smart URL to allow mobile users full access, this post was in-demand for brands wanting help with their Facebook marketing.
