Timeline for Facebook Pages has come as expected today, February 29!
Facebook did pull a fast one and launched it in the wee hours of the morning instead of at their event press conference scheduled for later this morning.
Here’s the basics:
We recommend not upgrading just yet. Let the dust settle a bit.
Your Facebook page tabs from TabSite still work just fine!
They are centered in the page tabs which will be 760 pixels which is wider than the now 520 pixel area.
THE BASICS:
1. Yes, your TabSite tabs still work.
2. Default landing tabs are going away (Timeline will be default)
3. Tab width will be moving to 760 px wide (currently 520px). TabSite will be adjusting to this and announcing date. UPDATE: It looks like tab width will be 810px wide. TabSite is planning accordingly.
UPDATE: Pin your top tabs! – hover, then click the pencil icon to “pin” a specific tab to the top.
4.. You can now message fan pages – there is a Timeline manager area on your Page to access this.
5.. Timeline will automatically come to pages on March 30th. You can publish earlier if you wish.
6. You can add a Timeline Cover Image NOW if desired.
NOTES: Cover photo can be up to 851px by 315px
but Timeline Cover images may NOT contain the following:
– Price or purchase information, such as “50% off” or “Download it at our website”.
– Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page’s About section.
– References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features.
– Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends”.
7. There is a preview stage where you can see it but the public can’t.!
