5 Ways to Amp Up Your Facebook Page Exposure

Post by Mike Gingerich TabSite co-founder @Mike_Gingerich You need to be seen. Let’s keep it simple…  There are 5 things you should be doing on your Facebook Page to help ensure you grow your fan count, engage your fan base, and ensure that those fans see your posts in their Facebook News Feed. Jump to INFOGRAPHIC. #1. PROVIDE VALUE People love tips and helpful information.  Give them useful nuggets and give them timely information. As well, be sure to engage users by asking questions when you post on your Facebook Page.  Once fans respond, keep them talking by asking related types of questions to drive conversation deeper.  The more they engage, the better your Facebook Page reach extends going forward with that fan. TIP: If you need to post a news source that everyone else is posting, try to personalize your message and deliver it differently, not simply a share (regurgitation) of someone else’s information but add your own take and insight on the third-party article.   #2. BE RESPONSIVE Watch your Page and answer posts fans make!  There is simply no reason for not responding in a timely manner to posts and comments.  There are all sorts of monitoring tools and 3rd party tools to alert you to comments and messages that can send you e-mail alerts.  Use these and respond!  The more timely your response, the more fans will comment and return in the future!   Care = Loyalty. A recent study by the team at  ExactTarget identified that the average response time by a Page Admin to a comment was 7 hours, and that 51% of the time another fan jumped in to respond faster than the brand.  Do not let this happen to you.  Respond to comments and Like’s on your Page in a timely manner.  Acknowledging the individual is a way to connect with them.  #3. Post at ‘Best Times’ for your Page  This is where your Facebook Insights comes into play.  Your “best times to post” are going to be driven by your industry (when your fan base is most likely to be on Facebook and most likely to engage) and more specifically by your audience (when are your fans on Facebook?).  Facebook Insights allows you to see interaction patterns for your Page over time. General page post studies by larger companies such as Buddy Media have shown those posting outside of business hours had a 20% greater engagement rate than those only posting in the 9-5 daily work hour times.  As well, a more recent bitly study in May 2012, showed that traffic on Facebook begins to pickup at 9 a.m. daily locally, and begins to fade somewhat after 4 p.m. They noted that 11 a.m. can be a good time, in general, to reach people (11 a.m. for the user) in terms of visibility, but noted that engagement by users (taking a action to interact with your post such as Like, Comment, or Share) happened best between 1-4 p.m. While some of these reports can seem to have conflicting data and even polar opposite tips, the reality comes back to your industry and most importantly, your very own Page Insights.

When are your Facebook fans engaging with your posts?   Your answer to these questions guides your Facebook Page posting strategy:

  • When are you getting the most reach to your posts?
  • What type of posts (status, image, link, video) are getting the most engagement?

#4. Posts with Images drive more Engagement  We’ve all heard the saying, a picture is worth a thousand words, right?  On Facebook, a picture is worth much more than that!  Images are the #1 driver of engagement on a Page since Timeline launched. Images drive engagement more than links (which are the most used format of a post), more than video, and more than text only status updates. According to an internal Facebook study“posts including a photo album or picture can generate 2X more engagement than other post types.”

Images, both on a PC and on mobile, now show prominently in a Facebook Users News Feed.  So take your content from your blogs and learn to express it visually in images you can post on Facebook!

#5. Use Tabs to drive engagement Last but definitely not least, use custom tabs! Custom tabs that offer engagement and social sharing tools such as Contests, Sweepstakes, Coupons, and Deals can be a big booster of fan engagement, return fan activity, and reach for your Page. According to this RocketMedia infographic, 40% of Facebook Page fans say they “Like” a Business on Facebook in order to get promotions and discounts. So, in this day, incentives work!  The cycle is simple. > Attract user to “Like” your Page

> Offer Contest / Sweepstakes / Coupon ,etc. in a News Feed post linking to a custom tab

> On Tab capture e-mail, allow sign-up, give offer and

> Promote easy Sharing to their friends with built-in social sharing tools

 > Repeat!

Services like TabSite offer robust tools to empower Page Admins to easily create and manage these types of Facebook approved incentives on custom tabs. To underscore the potential here, Facebook marketing trainer and relationship marketing expert Mari Smith recently organized a successful Facebook contest. Her contest received over 377 unique entrants. Her contest also had 15,571 overall votes (people had to come to the custom Tab to vote on her Facebook Page) from 2,153 unique voters!  Engagement!   BONUS: Here are a few extra tips to help your Facebook Page create more engagement:

  • Pin posts you want people to see for a while – Pinning post allows you to keep your more important message at the top of your Facebook page for seven days.
  • Highlight your best posts– Highlighting posts give you the opportunity to make certain things stand out more than others on your Facebook page.
  • Promote posts that need to reach the masses – Promoting posts give you the opportunity to reach a much larger portion of your Facebook fan base. You can often get a 25-60% boost in increase with this for-pay Facebook tool.

TabSite Launches 2 Stage Contests – Main and Finalist Stages

2 Stage Contests for Facebook Pages

TabSite is pleased to announce the release of a new TabSite Platinum feature allowing Facebook Page Admins to boost engagement and return visits of fans by running 2 stage contests on their Facebook Pages.

2-Stage-Contests-2a.png

Two stage Facebook Contests have general entry and voting for stage 1, and then the contest is narrowed down to a specified number of finalists set by the contest admin for a stage 2 final voting time period.

This in demand feature allows the Page Admin to set the number of finalists for the stage 2 voting. Page Admins then set the date when stage 1 voting ends and the contest moves to stage 2 voting.  Finalists for stage 2 are determined by the voting in the general first stage of the contest.  Votes do not carry over, they simply start from zero again in Stage 2.

Example:  A Facebook Page Admin can set their contest to run for 20 days and have a Finalist Stage voting for the last 7 days where fans come back to vote on the top 5 vote getters who makeup the finalist round.

Benefits:

  • Draw Fans back again to your Facebook Fan Page for repeat visits for stage 1 and stage 2
  • Allows for more social engagement through the 2 stage opportunity
  • Narrows entries down from the general entries to a set number of finalists
  • Those with the most votes are rewarded and move to the final round

Boost Facebook Page Engagement!  Ways a TabSite Contest can help include:

  • Contests draw users in and allow for multiple times and ways of connecting with fans
  • Facebook Contests with TabSite alllow for a simple method to reach the friends of contest entrants and voters by the social sharing tools upon entering and upon voting.
  • All TabSite contest tabs can have a Like Gate, enabling your Facebook Page to capture the Like which is a most important base connection with the user. Use the Like Gate!
• Upon entering the contest a user has ability to share their entry.  Enable all social sharing options to help the user share your entry on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc.
  • Entrants can vote for their own entry.  When they do so, all votes get the opportunity for social sharing.  This would again be another affinity connection for your Page with that Entrant that links them and increases the score towards them seeing more of your posts in their News Feed.
  • As friends of those who have entered or voted click the links that are shared and come to the Facebook page to vote or enter themselves, this then builds further affinity connections as the entrant/voter, and friend of theirs have engaged with your Page, together building a stronger EdgeRank connection triangle (entrant/voter, friend of entrant voter, and Page) thus giving both entrant and friend of entrant a stronger possiblity of your Facebook Page posts being in their News Feed.
  • Using the Facebook Comments box plugin per entry encourages posting and when the default “Post to my profile” check remains, this further connects the poster and your Facebook Page.
  • 2-stage voting builds another further connection for entrants and voters to return to the page to vote again, and with their next round of voting comes more social sharing and connecting options with your Facebook Page.

So, the circle of connection between a fan and a Facebook Page grows with use of tools like TabSite’s Contest tool.  For Page Admins this is a way to boost the potential of fans seeing your wall posts in their News Feed.

In short, the more a Facebook Page can engage a user such as through a contest where there are the potential for multiple “Likes”, Comments, and Links that relate the fan and Page, the visibility potential is boosted.  Further boosting occurs as these same fans share their entry vote and their friends engage with your Page.

TabSite Contests, available at Gold and Platinum Plans, offer Facebook Page Admins an engagement tool that ultimately can assist in boosting fan reach via the News Feed.  More details on 2 Stage Contests.

  • Admins can also hide entries (remove from pubic display) for evaluation of a entry to ensure contest rules have been followed.
  • Page Admins can set display of winners to be a single winner or multiple winners (up to 10). This is perfect for displaying 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries.

Capture, View, Manage, & Export Entries  TabSite Platinum allows users to capture, view, and export all entries to a contest or sweepstakes. Data is stored for 6 months after the end of the contest or sweepstakes and can be viewed, managed/deleted, and exported during that time.  This includes the ability to export the YouTube and Vimeo video url’s per Video Contest entries, abilty to export the essay/content entries for Essay Contests, and ability to export a zipped file of all contest images from Photo Contests.  Sweepstakes users can export the data from each submission of their created Sweepstakes form.     Manage & Approve all Contest Entries before they go Live on Fan Page. Sweepstakes Random Winner Picker The Platinum plan gives Facebook Page Admins a tool in the Export area to view entries and to select number of winners (up to 5) and then the system randomly selects a winner or up to the top 5, making it easy to have a random winner identified for each sweepstakes you run!   View Voters / Moderate Voters The Platinum version of TabSite gives Page Admins the ability to moderate voting to ensure a fair contest for all.  Page Admins can view a list of those that have voted and a link to the Facebook Profile of those voting.  This allows Page Admins to verify how many times a user has voted and if they are a valid Facebook profile.  In addition, there is also ability to ‘hide” a entry for further review.  This keeps the entry in the database but not available to the public.  Page Admins can then choose to either “Unhide” or delete the entry if it was in violation of contest terms. The TabSite Platinum features give Facebook Page Admins a robust feature set to manage Contests, Sweepstakes, and forms.  Together these tools empower Page Admins with ability to manage, export, and moderate engaging promotions on a fan page.   Compare TabSite Plans.
